Please note: the 1783 pair are actually a matched pair, one is by Wakelin & Taylor as catalogued, the other is by Benjamin Laver, London 1789.
Two pairs of George III silver meat platters,
one pair by Parker and Wakelin, London 1770, the other a matched pair, one by Wakelin and Taylor, London 1783, one by Benjamin Laver, London 1789,
the smaller earlier ones of shaped oval form, gadroon border, engraved with an armorial, the reverse with scratch weights and numbered '17' and '18', and the larger pair with a differently shaped gadroon border, engraved with two crests, lengths 31.7cm and 37.8cm, approx. weight 101.5oz. (4)
The armorial is that of the Bligh family (Earl of Darnley).
