A George IV silver-gilt presentation snuff box,
by John Reily, London 1824,
cartouche form, chased foliate scroll decoration on a matted background, scroll thumb-piece, the hinged cover set with a gold circular plaque with two armorial shields and inscribed 'Johanni Barton Armo Beneficii in rebus Dubiis amiciti aeque haereditariae Haud immemor D.D.AB. MDCCCXXVIII', engine-turned base with a rosette, length 9cm, approx. weight 6oz.

Provenance: A Private Collection.
Purchased from Christie's New York, 18 October 1994, lot 211.

The arms are those of Barton and Borodaile.
