A Victorian novelty silver smelling salts/scent bottle,
by E. H. Stockwell, London 1882, also with a Victorian lozenge mark for 11 November 1881, and retailed by P & F Schafer, 27 Piccadilly,
modelled as an onion, with textured onion skin, the underside with roots and a turn-action pop-up section, the hinged cover opens to reveal a glass bottle, height 5.5oz.

Provenance: A Private Collection.
Purchased from Phillips, London, 19 November 1999, lot 128.
