Fine Silver & Objects of Vertu

One of the highlights of the Fine Silver and Objects of Vertu sale is a Scottish parcel-gilt silver galleon by Brook and Son, 1912. Measuring 66cm long and 69cm high and weighing 192oz troy, the galleon is an impressive item, complete with rigging, intricate deck details, 42 canon, and a gilded figurehead and stern. It has an equally impressive provenance, once belonging to John Entwistle (1944-2002), the original bass guitarist for the rock band The Who. Alongside this is the Jeremy Hebblethwaite Collection of Wine Tasters consisting of over 80 lots of silver, ceramic, glass and treen examples, with dates ranging from the 17th century through to the modern day.  A particular feature of the sale is a striking early 17th  century German silver-gilt tankard, by Peter Wiber, Nürnberg, circa 1620. The tankard is engraved with three interpretations of allegorical prints by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528).  A feature of the modern and post-war silver is a limited edition sculpture ‘The Leaping Salmon’ by David Wynne, London 1980.   Also included in the sale is a private collection of early spoons and a rare George I silver Youghal basting spoon, by Edward Gillett, 1720.
