A large silver-gilt engraved 'castle-top' table snuff box,
by John Linnit, London 1839, shaped rectangular cushion form, the hinged cover with a heavy foliate scroll border and engraved with a view of the original Licensed Victuallers' School in Kennington, London, foliate scroll sides on a matted background, the underside of the base engraved with the names of the Trustees and Committee men, length 13.5cm, approx. weight 16.3oz.
Licensed Victuallers' School was founded in 1803 by the Society of Licensed Victuallers. The School was originally in Kennington, and then moved to Slough in 1922 and then to Ascot in 1989.
