‡The Haig Toilet Service, a fine 19th century French silver gentleman's travelling toilet service,

maker's mark of J.D with a duck between, in a lozenge punch, circa 1870, the case inscribed 'Smal, Fcant, Palais Royal 7,'

engine-turned decoration, with chased foliate borders, the centre with the Haig crest with foliate scroll mantling, comprising: a ewer and basin, the ewer of rectangular baluster form, with a detachable wicker-bound handle, on a foliate rectangular foot, a shaving hot water hot and stand, with a detachable turned ivory handle, and with a burner, a circular dish, a cylindrical shaving brush, four silver-mounted cologne bottles, screw-off covers, (one cover is stuck shut), five circular toilet jars, three oblong toilet jars, a hand mirror, and a rectangular toilet jar, plus a pair of inkwells, a dip pen, a mother-of-pearl handled desk seal, a mother-of-pearl paper knife, a large electroplated easel-back mirror, of arched upright rectangular form, plus steel and mother-of-pearl items: a pair of razors, two penknives, a toothpick/ear spoon, a corkscrew, a hook, and five other items, six various ivory brushes, an ivory handled knife and a glass, in a fitted boulle brass marquetry ebonised wooden case, with a stationery wallet and secret drawer, the cover with the Haig crest and the initials 'J.R.H', for James Richard Haig, length 47.5cm, approx. weighable silver 79.5oz.
