A William and Mary Sussex silver Trefid spoon,

by Robert Colgate, Lewes, circa 1690,

the oval bowl with a beaded rat-tail, the reverse of the terminal with scratch initials 'I.F' over 'F' over 'I.A', length 19.3cm, approx. weight 1.6oz.

A collection of Early English Spoons of the 15th, 16th & 17th Century formed by the Rev'd Thos. Staniforth. The property of E.W. Staniforth Esq; Kirk Hampton Hall, York 1898.

This spoon is photographed and illustrated in the book on the Staniforth Collection by Messrs. Crichton Bros., 22 Old Bond Street, London W. On page 79. There were 207 spoons in the book.

Exhibited at Bourdon-Smith's for the launch of "Sussex Silver and its Makers" on 12th December 2002.
