Day One of the sale includes a private collection of wine labels comprising 80 lots.  Silver labels became popular in the late 18th century when glass decanters started to become part of the homes of the aristocracy. This necessitated a means of labelling the contents of the bottles.  Silversmiths quickly saw the opportunity, producing increasingly unique and intricate designs, incorporating incised or pierced titles.

Popular designs and forms included Bacchanalian-inspired decoration, vine leaves, cut-out letters and bunches of grapes.  With estimates from £100, this is an ideal opportunity to start a collection.

Also in the first day of the 24th and 25th January sale is foreign silver, a highlight being an 18th century Maltese silver coffee pot, makers mark possibly MP, Pinto Period, circa 1740, estimate £3,000-5,000.

Day Two starts with another private collection of over 130 lots of silver.  Formed over many years, and comprising mainly 18th and 19th-century items, the collection includes a wide variety of hollowware and flatware.  A particular feature is a set of twelve George III silver plates, by Andrew Fogelberg & Stephen Gilbert, London 1784, estimate £5,000-7,000.

The final lot of the sale on Day Two of the sale is a late Elizabeth I / James I silver mounted coconut cup, circa 1600-1620, estimate £2,000-3,000.
