A Private Collection of Stamp Boxes, Postage and Desk Accessories (lots 340-441) lead the first day of the sale. The collection includes a wonderful pair of late-Victorian novelty silver ‘Port’ & ‘Starboard’ ship lantern inkwells, by Samuel Jacob, London 1897, (lot 371) and a modern novelty silver inkwell, maker’s mark worn, Birmingham 1970, in the form of a pillar box, (lot 376).
Also featured in day one is a Private Collection of Vesta Cases (lots 123-144), with an Edwardian novelty silver vesta case, by Sampson Mordan & Co Ltd, leading the collection (lot 142). We are also pleased to share part two of The Simon Ward Collection of Wine Labels (lots 155-253), which includes an unusual George III silver wine label incised ‘Lemon Peel’ (lot 176).
Other highlights include a late-19th century Russian silver-gilt and cloisonné enamel beaker, by Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow 1882 (lot 263), and an Italian 18-carat gold box and matching silver compact, retailed by Bulgari, Roma, (lot 337).
