Tania Schmieder was born in Kenya, lived her early childhood in Brunei, and arrived in England at nine. Although her formal education was in medicine, she left that field only a year after graduating and began painting after being powerfully inspired by the still life paintings of Tony de Wolf and Helen Simmonds. She says: “They gave me a sense that there might be a place in the world after all for the quiet and sensitive aspects of my nature, and that did me a lot of good!”
