British artist Sean Henry depicts mostly anonymous figures, in painted clay and bronze, often portrayed in thoughtful and contemplative poses. Changes of scale disrupt our comprehension of the figures - dimensions are never life size, but rather enlarged or reduced, creating a physical and psychological contrast in relation to the viewer. Henry’s large-scale installations include 'Seated Figure' originally situated on the North York Moors and now on view at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. In Woking, Surrey, a series of eight figures are permanently located throughout the town centre, and his painted bronze sculpture of Sir Tim Berners Lee can be seen in the newly reopened National Portrait Gallery in London. Henry graduated from Bristol Polytechnic in 1987 and has had more than 35 solo shows during his career. His work is regularly exhibited by galleries and museums in London, New York, Stockholm, Bad Homburg and Brussels, and his sculptures can be found in public collections in the UK, Sweden, Norway, Germany, USA and elsewhere. Henry lives and works near Winchester, Hampshire.
