Matthew Burt started his company from a garden shed in the Wylye Valley in 1978 and he remains at the forefront of designing and making the finest of contemporary English timber furniture. No longer ensconced in the shed, the business is now based in Hindon, near Salisbury, with a purpose-built workshop and studio and a showroom nearby. Matthew works with his team of master makers and apprentices, using timbers sourced as close to their Wiltshire base as possible. Public works are featured at the Ashmolean in Oxford, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the Courtauld in London and National Museum of Wales. Matthew is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Society of Master Craftsmen and has won numerous prestigious awards for his work, notably from the Furniture Makers’ Company.
