Siegfried Sassoon;

And by family descent

This work depicts Violet Bonham Carter. The daughter of the Prime Minister Herbert Asquith, she was a leading figure in Liberal politics, a close friend of Winston Churchill and, after becoming a life peer, was active in the House of Lords. She lived near Siegfried Sassoon and their families often socialised together. Sassoon once wrote that she 'evinces immense enthusiasm for me and my "work"; yet I discover that no copy of any volume of my verse exists in her house
