Our December sale features over 500 lots of 20th century and contemporary art to be sold over two days. A highlight is Elisabeth Frink's Rolling Over Horse (lot 836), cast in 18 carat gold as part of a prestigious series of works commissioned in the early 1970s by the Morris Singer Foundry from the leading British sculptors of the time. Amongst several other works by Frink, are a bronze boar and a drawing of the same subject (lots 834 & 835), which demonstrates how her bold draftsmanship mirrored her vigorous sculptural style.

Day two begins with The Collection of Michael and Henrietta Gough (lots 752-804), which centres on Modern British Art, including numerous works by Frink and Mary Fedden, both of whom were close friends, and other examples by Winifred Nicholson, John Craxton, Maggi Hambling and Euan Uglow. Also included in the sale are pictures from the collection of legendary Cork Street dealer Gustav Delbanco (lots 583-603).

George Leslie Hunter once said the 'Everyone must choose his own way, and mine will be the way of colour'. The auction includes two contrasting works which demonstrate how Hunter would use rapid brushstrokes of strong colour from across the spectrum to build up form (lots 640 & 641). Other Scottish works include paintings by Anne Redpath (lot 838), Jack Vettriano (lot 900) and William Crosbie (lot 904).

Other highlights include oils by Alan Reynolds (lot 684), Arthur Boyd (lot 870) and Simon Bussy (lots 657 & 658)and William Henry Bartlett (lot 510); works on paper by Henry Moore (lot 699), John Piper (lots 727-736) and Terry Frost (lots 678-683); and sculpture by Denis Mitchell (lot 685), Guy Taplin (lots 913-918), and Dylan Lewis (lot 919).
