Honourable East India Company: a gilt uniface medal resembling the seal of the company, company arms
Honourable East India Company: a gilt uniface medal resembling the seal of the company, company arms of three ships under sail, two sea lions as supporters, the crest being a globe between two lances with pennants, 'DEVS INDICAT' above and 'DEVS DVCENTE NIL NOCET' below, 'NON MINOR EST VIRTVS QVAM QVÆRERE PARTA TVERI' to the circumference, 75mm, light wear to gilding, otherwise extremely fine; with a plaster cast taken from the 17th century wax impression of the seal that was appended to the appointment of Mr (later Sir) Streynsham Master as Governor of Madras in 1675, in a gilt edged card mount,collector's labelverso, 135mm; and a bentwood medal case for a smaller medal with ms. label describing an electrotype similar to the first described here and speculating that the original from which it derived might have been a reward for Sir George Oxenden "for his services in defending [the HEIC's] factory at Surat against Sevagee [sic]"; and a small collection of late Victorian correspondence discussing the provenance and purpose of these items; together with: Victoria, a wax impression of her great seal of state, retaining a small part of the chord and in its metal skippet, 158mm.
