Providence Tool Company: a .43 'Spanish Model' Peabody service rifle, barrel 33 in., tangent/ladder back sight, Peabody action with tilting block and external hammer, patent and manufacturer details to the left of the action, full stock with steel furniture and clearing rod, plate under butt marked 'MASS 162' (see note). Section 58(2) - no licence required if possessed as a curiosity or ornament.

The marking 'MASS' indicates that this weapon was part of a contract to supply the State of Massachusetts with 2,941 surplus rifles from the manufacturer'sinventory, c.1872Ref. Flayderman.
