The interesting Efficiency Medal to Sergeant Philip G. Butler
The interesting Efficiency Medal to Sergeant Philip G. Butler, Parachute Regiment and London Irish Rifles, Elizabeth II, Territorial (22511154 SGT P G BUTLER LIR), at least extremely fine.
This NCO was known to the collector from his own time in the London Irish Rifles. He was clearly a very colourful character, and at the time that the collector acquired this medal he was informed by a fellow Regimental Association member that Butler (nicknamed 'Monkey') had recently served a jail term for robbery. The collector's notes inform us that Butler served in the Parachute Regiment in the Second World War, including Africa, Italy and Europe. A tale is also recounted in the LIR of Butler getting the better of a young Paratrooper in a bar fight, after the man had objected to his wearing of parachutist's wings. Offered with notes.
