Born in Basingstoke 10/12/1879 and was a ship fitting apprentice before signing up to the Artificer Section, A.O.C., for 12 years in May 1903. Served in Malta prior to the First World War, before a brief posting to the Isle of Wight in 1911. Served in France between August 1914 and June 1918. His M.S.M. card notes that he was attached to No. 12 Ordnance Mobile Workshop, which was probably based in Boulogne. Offered with research.
