Richard Henry Peirse was a highly accomplished naval officer who served with distinction in the Great War. He is celebrated for his deft prosecution of the Naval bombardment of Smyrna in 1915. He is also notable for having been the father of future Air Chief Marshall Sir Richard Edmund Charles Peirse, who's D.S.O. came as a result of his dashing role in the air attack on Dunkirk in the same year.
