An Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Private Daniel Maskell, 76th Regiment of Foot, Victoria, clip and ring suspension (DANIEL MASKELL, 76th REGIMENT FOOT. 1841.), officially impressed, nearly extremely fine.

A labourer from Newbury, Daniel Maskell joined the 76th Foot in April 1813 at the age of sixteen. After a short spell at the depot he was posted with the 1st Battalion to Canada, and on 11 September 1814 he participated in the disastrous battle of Plattsburgh where the regiment lost 3 officers and 35 men killed, wounded or taken prisoner. Maskell served for over 26 years, retiring on 9 Oct 1841 and being awarded the LSGC with a gratuity of £5 that year, this being his only entitlement.
