An 18th century Carinthian flintlock rifled carbine
An 18th century Carinthian flintlock rifled carbine, by Franz Xaveri Schaschl of Ferlach, swamped octagonal barrel 12.25 in., eight groove rifling, brass fore sight, one fixed and one folding back sight, top flat engraved "Franz Xaveri Schaschl in Ferlach", tang numbered 242; plain lock with faceted pan and swan necked cock, tumbler with detent, lock plate stamped 'IR' to the inside; stocked in walnut to within 1.3 in. of the muzzle, butt with shaped cheek rest and patch box with sliding cover secured by a sprung catch, brass furniture, steel sling swivels and ram rod.
