The Collection of Jean Louis Chameroy, Offered Without Reserve

Woolley & Wallis are delighted to present the collection of Jean Louis Chameroy (1946-2020), a true connoisseur of antique jewellery, to be sold without reserve on the 24th October 2023, and followed by our Fine Jewellery sales on the 25th and 26th October.

Painstakingly assembled over his decades of experience in the jewellery trade, Mr. Chameroy's personal collection is an extraordinary assemblage of rare and beautiful jewels traversing the 18^th, 19^th and early 20^th centuries, and a testament to his extraordinary depths of scholarship and taste.

Among the highlights are a superb collection of 18^th century mourning rings and bagues au firmament (lots 127-155), a number of exquisite 18^th and early 19^th century diamond brooches (lots 197, 201, 202, 203 and 213), and some spectacular jewels showcasing the unsurpassed goldwork of the 1830s (156, 162, 185 and 189-192). Among the rarest pieces discovered in the collection are an intriguing shakudo ring by Alexis Falize (172) and an aventurine quartz and diamond scent bottle by Fabergé (109).

Chameroy’s passion for historic jewellery is apparent from a large collection of 18^th and 19^th century cut steel and Victorian hairwork jewels, tortoiseshell piqué work and Georgian paste shoe buckles, as well as excellent examples of mid 18^th century ‘Queen Anne’ paste (119, 123 and 124).
