Tuesday 24th October 2023. Starts at 10:00am
Woolley & Wallis are delighted to present the collection of Jean Louis Chameroy (1946-2020), a true connoisseur of antique jewellery, to be sold without reserve on the 24th October 2023, and followed by our Fine Jewellery sales on the 25th and 26th October.
Painstakingly assembled over his decades of experience in the jewellery trade, Mr. Chameroy's personal collection is an extraordinary assemblage of rare and beautiful jewels traversing the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, and a testament to his extraordinary depths of scholarship and taste.
Among the highlights are a superb collection of 18th century mourning rings and bagues au firmament (lots 127-155), a number of exquisite 18th and early 19th century diamond brooches (lots 197, 201, 202, 203 and 213), and some spectacular jewels showcasing the unsurpassed goldwork of the 1830s (156, 162, 185 and 189-192). Among the rarest pieces discovered in the collection are an intriguing shakudo ring by Alexis Falize (172) and an aventurine quartz and diamond scent bottle by Fabergé (109).
Chameroy’s passion for historic jewellery is apparent from a large collection of 18th and 19th century cut steel and Victorian hairwork jewels, tortoiseshell piqué work and Georgian paste shoe buckles, as well as excellent examples of mid 18th century ‘Queen Anne’ paste (119, 123 and 124).
Offered with no reserve, this sale presents a rare opportunity for jewellery collectors old and new to acquire truly beautiful antique pieces assembled by one of the most discerning eyes in jewellery.
