A Louis XV gold

A Louis XV gold, hardstone, shell and silver gilt-mounted snuff box, by Antoine Daroux, Paris 1747, the rectangular box with hinged cover decorated with girl offering a drink from a nearby barrel to a soldier with gun and sword, gold highlights to the ground and tree trunks and all on a carved shell ground, depicting tents, with confirming scenes and decoration to the four sides and base, 8cm wide, the cover and internal base with the mark of Antoine Daroux, the silver borders with wavy decoration

A box with similar military camp iconography was sold by the late Baron Maximilien de Goldschmidt-Rothschild, Sotheby's Monaco, 29th November 1975, ex lot 136.
