An early 19th century sardonyx cameo by Filippo Rega (1761 - 1833), possibly depicting Emma, Lady Hamilton as a Sibyl or in the guise of a Classical goddess, the female head in profile wearing a diadem and veil, signed 'Rega' in Greek, in a gold rubover setting with later pendant bail, cameo 2.7cm high

Filippo Rega (1761 - 1833) was an Italian engraver, medalist and student of Giovanni Pichler. He studied in Rome under the Pichlers before moving to Naples in 1787. Emma, Lady Hamilton also lived in Naples at this time, having been sent there to marry Sir William Hamilton in 1786.
