A JAPANESE URUSHI-E WOOD CHABAKO AFTER SHIBATA ZESHIN
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
Possibly cedar wood, the box made for holding utensils for the tea ceremony, the door and sides decorated with paulownia flowers, leaves and scrolling tendrils in russet-brown and black lacquer, the interior with two inner compartments and a small drawer above, the door with two characters reading Zeshin and with a red seal underneath for Shin, after Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891), 16.6cm x 20cm x 12.6cm, (3)
