A LARGE JAPANESE EMBROIDERED PANEL
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
With a central panel enclosing many three-clawed dragons writhing amongst scrolling clouds, with borders of geometrical designs, mon enclosing mitsudomoe (three comma) and four-petal flowers; the reverse with large butterflies on a ground of tortoiseshell diaper patterns, 252cm x 216cm.
Provenance: from the collection of Francis Younghusband (1863-1942), by repute.
