A JAPANESE IRON MORAGASHI SOTEN TSUBA
EDO PERIOD, 18TH CENTURY
The quatrelobed body decorated in openwork and low relief with a battle, one figure atop an armour-clad samurai whilst another runs in fear, with details highlighted in gold kinzogan, inscribed Moragashi Soten, in a kiri box, 8.1cm.
Provenance: from a private European collection.
Morogashi Soten was from Hikone in the Omi Province. Soten tsuba often feature designs with strong narratives reminiscent of pictorial works.
