EDO AND MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
The first war hat in dark russet brown lacquer, the top with three gold lacquer kuyo mon designs of eight small circles around a larger one, the underside in black lacquer with gold squares and triangles, together with a modern wood stand; the other in iron, made up of fourteen metal plates and rivets with round heads, 44cm and 40cm respectively. (3)
Provenance: from a private European collection.
The kuyo mon was the family crest of the Hosokawa clan.
