A JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
The tall baluster-shaped body decorated with two large panels enclosing beauties and children in a mountainous landscape, the reverse with a luxuriant garden with irises, peonies and wisteria issuing from banded hedges, with thatched huts in the background, on a dark navy-blue ground embellished with a dense pattern of flowerheads and scrolling tendrils in gilt, the base signed Kawayama Nanpo, 25cm.
