A PAIR OF JAPANESE PORCELAIN JARDINIERES
MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
The tall rectangular bodies decorated with two sides featuring buildings in mountainous river landscapes rendered en grisaille, the other two sides painted in a style reminiscent of Chinese famille rose decoration, one with an insect flying over a basket of grapes and vines, another with fruiting branches of pomegranates, the last two painted with small crabs crawling by tables laden with an incense burner and a tea kettle, with flowers in vases beside them, both jardinières raised on four short feet and signed Dai Nihon Kinzan sei, both 13cm.
