The family of Ito Tozan II (1871-1937) acted as advisors to the Lords of the Zeze domain in the Shiga Prefecture. The Zeze Domain kilns were established in the 17th century under the patronage of the famous tea master Kobori Enshu (1579-1647) and were famous for their production of brown glazed pottery and tea ceremony utensils. The kilns closed at the end of the 17th century due to financial issues and were re-established by Ito Tozan II and other artists under the name Zeze Kageroen (The Shimmering Garden of Zeze).
