A LARGE IMARI VASE AND COVER, PROBABLY SAMSON
19TH CENTURY
The baluster body typically decorated in underglaze blue, gilt, red, green and black enamels, painted with two bijin in a luxuriant garden, the beauties wearing black robes and surrounded by a multitude of large flowering chrysanthemums, the flange and the rim of the lid with a band of stylised flowerheads and scrolling tendrils in gilt, topped by a large bulbous knop, 88cm overall.
