TWO JAPANESE IMARI BOWLS
EDO PERIOD, 18TH CENTURY
The first with a shallow body decorated in underglaze blue and polychrome enamels, painted to the interior with a shishi, scrolling tendrils and lotus flowers, the exterior with further flowerheads in medallions in the Chinese wucai style, the base with a mark reading Da Ming Chenghua nian zhi; the other bowl with branches of the Shochikubai, the Three Friends of Winter (bamboo, prunus, pine) to the well and the exterior with prunus flowers, curtains and tassels, 16.4cm and 14.9cm respectively.
