A NEAR PAIR OF JAPANESE IMARI TOKKURI

EDO PERIOD, EARLY 18TH CENTURY

The sake bottles with tall bulbous bodies and elongated necks, both painted in underglaze blue, gilt, green, yellow, red and purple enamels, with shaped panels enclosing ho-o birds in flight and iron-red medallions containing stylised flowerheads, on a dense ground of blossoms and scrolling tendrils, the shoulders with chrysanthemum mon and lappets, 24cm and 23cm.
