A LARGE JAPANESE IMARI CHARGER
EDO PERIOD, LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Typically decorated in underglaze blue, gilt, red and orange enamels, the well painted with pavilions by the water, with flowering prunus, irises and maple trees around them, a bridge connecting the islands and with a temple nestled amongst mountains visible in the distance, the cavetto with alternating panels of further buildings and stylised peonies, the rim with a band of flowerheads and scrolling tendrils; the underside with branches of chrysanthemum, prunus, peonies and dianthus, a band of reishi heads encircling the foot; a rhomboid paper collection label for 'Collection Frederic Poiret' and another numbered 347/2, 33.7cm.
