A KOREAN BOTTLE VASE
A KOREAN BOTTLE VASE
JOSEON DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
The pear-shaped body with an elongated neck, decorated with two prancing deer underneath scrolling clouds, each animal holding a bullocho fungus of immortality in its mouth, painted in underglaze blue on the mottled white ground, 22.2cm.
Deer and sacred fungi are two of the Sipjangsaeng (the Ten Symbols of Longevity) which are popular patterns often used in Korean art.
