A TALL JAPANESE CLOISONNE VASE BY HAYASHI KODENJI (1831-1915)
MEIJI PERIOD, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The square-section body decorated with a continuous design of seven sparrows in flight and perched amongst prunus blossoms, with leafy branches of maple below, the decoration rendered in polychrome enamels and silver and gold wires, all on a deep midnight-blue ground, with ornate bands of jewels, cash, and other geometric designs to the neck and footrim, with copper mounts and lining, the base stamped and inscribed Nagoya Hayashi saku (made by Hayashi of Nagoya), 31.3cm.
