Fine Japanese Works of Art

The Spring 2023 series of Asian Art sales will include two auctions dedicated to Japanese Art: Fine Japanese Works of Art on the morning of 23rd May, and Japanese Art II in the afternoon. For Japanese Art II, please click here. 

The sales will feature a variety of artworks spanning centuries, starting with a selection of woodblock prints from the collection of Adolphe Stoclet (1871-1949). The Fine Japanese Works of Art sale will include a rare c.1650 drug jar for the Western market; a massive 175cm long jizai okimono (fully articulated) wood model of a snake signed Masakazu; magnificent metalwork by the Komai workshop, and many other artworks spanning centuries. 

The Japanese Art II sale will start with a selection of Japanese damascene jewellery from the private collection of a British artist, to be offered without reserve; a private collection of arms and armour, and many other pieces including ceramics, metalworks, textiles, sagemono and works on paper.
