Depicting a jovial-looking Hotei, the god standing and holding a large sack of treasures to his side, a rolled makimono (handscroll) in his right hand, his robes partially open to reveal his large belly, the dark wood used for his coat contrasting with the warm honey-coloured ivory, signed Shoko/Katsumitu in a red lacquer tablet underneath, 18cm.
