Depicting a scholar at his study, sitting and holding a fan, absorbed in reading a book open on a low table to his right, with further books and a small cabinet underneath, a large carving of Hotei beside him and a kettle in a basket on the other side, the details realistically rendered, a two character signature for Sosai in a red lacquer tablet underneath, 14cm.
