A LARGE JAPANESE GOLD LACQUER TRAY
MEIJI OR LATER, 20TH CENTURY
By the Sakakyu Lacquerware Company of Honpo; of rectangular form with straight sides, decorated with four roundels variously made of leafy bamboo, flowering branches of prunus, narcissi and chrysanthemum, in gold and coloured hiramakie on the nashigi ground, with some details rendered in raden (mother of pearl inlays), signed Saito at the back; 5cm x 76cm x 45.5cm; together with a tomobako wood box, inscribed with 'Four gentlemen Hanamaru maki-e Wajima lacquer, wide tray, Saito family'.
