Two Japanese makimono (handscroll paintings), probably from a set of three; in ink and colour and mounted on paper with gold flakes; depicting the story of a cursed man and his unfortunate encounters with kitsune (fox spirits), followed by his peregrination in Hell, where he meets a large number of bakemono (monsters); 26.5cm x 1200cm and 26.5cm x 1394cm respectively.
