A JAPANESE IVORY NETSUKE OF A LION DOG, SHISHI

The mythical beast seated on its haunches, with its head turned to dexter and clutching a large ball between its paws, its curling mane and tail finely carved and with a small loose ball in its mouth, unsigned but attributed to Mitsuharu of Kyoto, 4.4cm.

Provenance: the collection of His Royal Highness The Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1900-1974), sold at Christie's London, 12th-13th July 2006, lot 661.
