A PAIR OF JAPANESE SHIBAYAMA-STYLE PANELS
MEIJI 1868-1912
With two standing figures depicted in ivory and mother of pearl on a black lacquer ground, one wearing a tall eboshi hat and playing the flute, the other grabbing his sword in surprise at a butterfly fluttering above him, both designs taken from the print 'Fujiwara Yasumasa playing the flute by moonlight' by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, with foliate designs to the borders in red and gilt lacquer, both signed Naito in seal script, 58cm x 39cm.
