A GOOD JAPANESE GOLD AND MIXED METAL OJIME
MEIJI 1868-1912
Depicting a caparisoned elephant with his handler, the pachyderm with its head turned towards his master, the man wearing a conical hat and a long coat with a diamond pattern, possibly a foreigner, with details finely rendered in different colours, a two character inscription underneath the animal's feet, possibly for Shumin, 1.5cm.
Provenance: deaccessioned from an American museum and then in the collection of Anne Meselson, by repute. Now in an English private collection, Surrey.
