A JAPANESE SATSUMA DISH
MEIJI 1868-1912
The well decorated with beauties and children in a mountainous landscape, a boy carrying an Inari fox mask on his back, with three men holding straw hats and thatched buildings to the side, a series of torii gates in the distance and with a lake behind, signed Setsuzan in a rectangular cartouche below, 30.5cm.
The boy with a fox mask and the corridor of torii gates may be references to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Kyoto dedicated to the Shinto fox god Inari.
