A JAPANESE KOMAI INLAID IRON BOX AND COVER
TAISHO PERIOD, 20TH CENTURY
Of rectangular shape, the hinged cover decorated with two tigers and a small cub, the sides with branches of bamboo, raised on four lobed feet to the corner, the inside with the monogram 'EVB' and engraved 'Kyoto July 1915', the base with five butterflies fluttering around the dragonfly trademark of Komai Otojiro (1842-1917), and a seal mark reading Nihon koku Kyoto no ju Komai sei, together with an associated wooden stand, the box 4.4cm x 7.5cm x 10.7cm.
