λ A JAPANESE DISPLAY CABINET, SHODANA

MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY

Of rectangular shape, the upper section with two sliding doors, three open shelves underneath with reticulated bands of scrolling tendrils, two further doors beneath and a cupboard to the right, the lower section with two short drawers, the surface decorated in mother of pearl, gold lacquer and ivory inlays depicting birds and flowers, all raised on a four-legged base, 108.5cm.
