A JAPANESE WOOD AND LACQUER LECTERN, KENDAI
EDO PERIOD OR LATER, 19TH CENTURY
The lectern plate decorated with two peacocks under a large pine, one bird perched on a rocky outcrop and with flowering peonies behind them, rendered in gold maki-e lacquer and mother of pearl inlays, raden, on a black ground, raised on a shaft above a cabinet with two drawers, the lower section decorated with ornate fans, ho-ho birds, prunus and chrysanthemum flowerheads in gold lacquer on a red ground, the sides and back with hydrangeas, 56.5cm x 27cm x 54.5cm.
