Of typical rectangular shape with a domed lid, decorated with various birds amongst large flowering branches of peonies, prunus and other foliage, in gold maki-e and brown lacquer on a black roiro ground, the borders with bands of diamond cash, the corner mounts and escutcheon in copper decorated with butterflies amongst flowerheads, 37.5cm x 32.3cm x 68cm.
